NVR's - Network Video Recorders
NVR (or Network Video Recorder) is simply another name for a video server that stores recorded video. The “N” comes from the fact the device is connected (via Ethernet) to a computer network and the video is “typically” (but not always) monitored and administered (remotely via the network or via the Internet or both) from a remote client PC. Today most DVR’s (Stand Alone or PC-Based) are network capable and therefore the concept of NVR really doesn't have the same distinction today as perhaps it once did.
NVR is a term that is often associated with IP camera video while the term DVR (Digital Video Recorder) commonly relates to a device that records analog or HD camera video. Again, what once was distinctive terminology today has become rather blurred.
